I. Basics

PL Capital Advisors, LLC is a U.S. investment adviser that specializes in activist investing in community and regional banks and thrifts. Founded in 1996 and based in Naples, Florida, the firm is led by principals Richard (Rich) Lashley and John Palmer, each with more than 35 years of banking and bank‑stock investing experience.

Richard “Rich” Lashley is co‑founder, principal, and managing member of PL Capital, a bank‑focused activist investment firm he launched in 1996 after a career at KPMG. At KPMG, he specialized in advising thrifts, banks, and mortgage companies, rose to Director in the Financial Services – Capital Strategies Group, and developed deep expertise in bank M&A, conversions, capital restructurings, and valuation. Lashley has since served as a director or significant shareholder at numerous U.S. banks and thrifts, is regarded as a “financial expert” under Sarbanes‑Oxley, and frequently speaks on bank governance and shareholder value. He holds a BS in Business Administration from SUNY Oswego and an MBA in Accounting from Rutgers University, graduating in the top 10% of his class at both institutions.​

John W. Palmer is co‑founder, principal, and managing member of PL Capital, with a career devoted to the banking and financial services sector. Before co‑founding PL Capital in 1996, he worked at KPMG from 1983 to 1996, providing assurance and strategic advisory services to commercial banks, thrifts, mortgage and consumer finance companies, and discount brokerages. Palmer developed extensive experience in bank M&A, public and private securities offerings, SEC filings, and regulatory matters, and became a Director in KPMG’s Financial Services – Capital Strategies Group. At PL Capital he continues to lead activist investments in community and regional banks, has served on multiple bank boards, and is recognized for his expertise in bank consolidation and capital allocation.
