RC Ventures
RC Ventures is the personal investment vehicle of Canadian entrepreneur and activist investor Ryan Cohen, best known for founding online pet retailer Chewy and for his high‑profile campaigns at GameStop and Bed Bath & Beyond.
Ryan Cohen (born 1985/1986 in Montreal, Canada) is a Canadian entrepreneur, business executive and activist investor, widely associated with the rise of “meme stocks” and retail‑driven activism. He co‑founded pet‑products e‑commerce company Chewy in 2011, built it to roughly multibillion‑dollar annual revenues, and sold it to PetSmart in 2017 for about 3.35 billion dollars in what was then the largest e‑commerce acquisition; he remained CEO until 2018.
After Chewy, Cohen began building concentrated public‑equity positions through RC Ventures, first becoming a major shareholder in GameStop in 2020, then joining its board in January 2021, becoming chairman in June 2021, and being named president and CEO in 2023 while remaining its largest shareholder through RC Ventures. He has since become known as a millennial, social‑media‑savvy activist whose campaigns at GameStop and Bed Bath & Beyond galvanized retail investors and earned him the nickname “Meme King.”
