I. Basics

Sachem Head Capital Management LP is an SEC-registered investment manager founded in 2012 by Scott D. Ferguson. The firm employs a concentrated, value-oriented investment strategy and is primarily focused on equity investments in North America and Europe.

Scott D. Ferguson is the founder, managing partner, and portfolio manager of Sachem Head Capital Management, a New York–based, value‑oriented activist hedge fund he launched in 2012. A protégé of Bill Ackman, he joined Pershing Square Capital Management at its inception in 2003 as the firm’s first investment professional and spent nine years there, becoming a partner and helping lead high‑profile activist campaigns. Earlier in his career, Ferguson worked as a business analyst at McKinsey & Company and as a vice president at operations‑focused private equity firm American Industrial Partners.

Born in 1974 and raised in Guilford, Connecticut, Ferguson earned an A.B. in Public Policy from Stanford University in 1996 and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 2003. At Sachem Head, he manages concentrated, event‑driven positions and has led activist engagements at companies including US Foods, Autodesk, Delivery Hero, Twilio, and Performance Food Group, where he joined the board in 2025. He is widely regarded as a disciplined, less combative activist focused on long‑term value creation and governance improvements.
